Otto Vondrak has written a beautiful history of the Rochester Subway on Railroad.net

People are talking about the subway again. We were, in fact, civilized at one time. Little old Rochester had a subway in 1927 that ran right up to 1956. Animatus Studios has produced a DVD with old footage of the Rochester Subway and it is available here for $29. This is a must have for local history buffs.

Local photographer James Bogue has some beautiful photos of the abandoned subway beds posted on his site.

The old subway entrances look a lot like the sort of new, classically designed bus shelters downtown today.
