Pete
LaBonne lives in a handmade house in the heart of the Adirondacks,
Unibomber-style but without the politics. The music created
in his Hodge Podge Lodge is familiar like Beck but with a wider
palette and more subversive. Pete has played with Alex Chilton,
Richard Hell and New Orleans' Soul/Blues legend Earl King.
Pete is in the habit of recording a project each year and his
cds and tapes have been widely circulated by Pete fans. But
so far, the only complete project to be released on cd is "Glob"
It is available below and is an unlikely titled masterpiece.

Pete
LaBonne performing at the Bug Jar 2002
The
late Chuck Cuminale (aka Colorblind James) wrote, "Labonne's
songs exude a dizzying brilliance with several lifetimes' worth
of reckless creativity." Pete lived in Rochester for many
years and still visits often. He plays bass with Invisible
Idiot and he played keyboards on the Margaret
Explosion Happy Hour cd. Other than occasionally
sitting in with Margaret Explosion on piano, his only gig here
recently was at Milestones in March 2005.
Pete played with Nod at the Bug Jar in
2002. Each time he plays he wins lifelong fans. He can't miss.
Pete is currently fronting the Mill
Town Bastards in the North Country. Check

Was I Born?" |

Eccentric, existential,
musical adventures that expand to the heavens — "May
the Coolest Thing Go Down". Downright hopeful. "Take
Take Take", a Four Tops like spin, will stop you dead in
your tracks when you realize the irony is either incredibly
subtle or completely missing. The millennial homage "Shut
Down" (your computer now, baby) and sensational lines like
"I sleep with you in the ICU" and "Let the flies
find what's left of our world" will melodically haunt you
long after listening to the cd. There is even an anthem here,
"Pour Beer on Each Other", for the arena rock set.
Pete plays all the instruments on Glob like a well seasoned
band. You would be hard pressed to figure out his method for
building tracks that sound this full of spontaneous give and
take. Picture a raucous, well seasoned, thoroughly entertaining
NRBQ-like bar band on a good night.
Songs
on Glob:
1. She Used to Walk
2. Clouds are Overspreading the Region
3. Wonderful Dynasty
4. Pour Beer on Each Other
5. Take Take Take
6. Shut Down
7. Your Dreams
8. I Don't Wanna Get High
9.
May the Coolest Thing Go Down
10. You
and Your Big Mouth (download free mp3)
11. Prepare to Materialize
12. Artists's Statement
"Glob,"
